Walker is influenced by Marcel Duchamp’s “Ready Made” philosophy and practice. His objective is to reveal the artistic potential of everyday commercially bought materials. He discovers their potential applications, their limitations and utilizes them in ways initially unintended to create contemporary art.In his newest work, Walker uses a synthetic fabric intended for airplanes; it’s light weight, translucent, and durable. When backlit, a stained glass effect is revealed. This material has some rigidity, which allows it to be manipulated into 3-Dimensional wall sculptures. Walker also created some hanging sculptures, and, yes, even some lampshades to illustrate the flexibility of this fabric, which lead him to coin the phrase “flex art” to describe the endless possibilities of its multi-dimensional attributes.
